Roll out the red carpet. The 80th anniversary of the first Academy Awards ceremony is May 16. However, the most prestigious film award show wasn't always about glitz and glamour. In 1929, only 250 people attended the first banquet, with a presentation ceremony that lasted only five minutes. And no suspense was involved-the winners had been announced three months prior.
Here are some additional Oscar fun facts: Leader of the pack, The first award ever presented went to Emil Jannings in 1929 for his roles in " The Last Command" and " The Way of All Flesh."
The more, the merrier, Meryl Streep, Kathrine Hepburn and Jack Nickolson are the three actors with the most nominations.
The Oscar queen, Kathrine Hepburn holds the prominent record for the most awards won, taking home four golden statuettes in her lifetime.
A clean sweep. The following films won awards for best picture, directing, actor, actress and writing: " It Happened One Night" (1943), One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest" (1975) and "The Silence of the Lambs" (1991).
